About Skinrock

What exactly is Skinrock?

Skinrock is real, quarried stone “peeled” into ultra-thin veneer sheets measuring 4 × 8 ft. The natural stone is reinforced with resin and fiberglass, resulting in a sheet thickness of 1.5–3 mm and a weight of about 20 lb per sheet. Traditional stone slabs are about 1 inch thick and can weigh up to 1,000 lb each.

Yes. The exposed veneer is genuine natural stone, with natural variation in color, veining, texture, and mineral composition.

Skinrock’s best-established applications are interior and exterior vertical surfaces, including feature walls, lobbies, reception areas, columns, millwork, cabinetry, elevator surrounds, and residential, retail, hospitality, and commercial walls.

Installation & Care

What substrates can it go over?

Skinrock can be installed over appropriately prepared, stable substrates such as drywall, cement board, tile, stone, wood, and other compatible surfaces.

Our primary recommendation is Mapei Ultrabond ECO PU 2K, a two-component polyurethane adhesive. Soudal Fix ALL Crystal is used for translucent, backlit applications.

Yes. Skinrock can be used as a natural stone finish in properly designed shower systems. Waterproofing must be addressed as part of the complete installation, including the substrate, seams, corners, and penetrations. Follow the applicable waterproofing and installation manufacturers’ instructions; the stone veneer alone does not make the shower waterproof.

Stain-Proof Premium Impregnating Sealer. Our team can provide project-specific application guidance.

Sheets cut and fit more easily than conventional stone. Seam appearance depends on the stone pattern, layout, installer skill, and sheet selection. Edge, corner, and transition details can be developed to suit the design intent.

Pricing & Availability

What does it cost?

For architects, we focus on project budgeting rather than dealer pricing. Skinrock’s thin, lightweight format can reduce handling, transportation, installation, and structural requirements compared with conventional stone. Contact our team for pricing based on your stone selection and project requirements.

We stock selected stones from the Raw Collection, identified on the Skinrock West website. Luxury Collection stones, including polished and honed finishes, are typically custom ordered and may have minimum order requirements and longer lead times. Selected Luxury Collection stones may be available for quicker orders. Contact our team to confirm current availability.

Sustainability

What is the sustainability story?

Skinrock uses significantly less natural stone per square foot than traditional stone slabs. Its lightweight format can also reduce transportation demands and structural load requirements.
